2026 SUMMER READING information:

We are pleased to present the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District Summer Reading Program for Grand Avenue Middle School. Summer should be filled with joyful times, and we hope that reading will be an important part of your child’s summer plans.

A large body of research indicates that students have higher perceptions of themselves as readers when they have some choice in their reading selections. Therefore, the Department of English at Grand Avenue Middle School invites each child to choose his or her own personally interesting title to read this summer. We recommend that the selected text be of appropriate length and complexity (ie: a text written for teens or young adults). 

We are also pleased to provide several resources here on our website to help students choose their books. While the suggested titles have great literary merit, some may contain mature themes. We encourage you to review these options with your child to find a book that matches their interests, reading level, and maturity. If your child has trouble finding the right fit, we also recommend reaching out to the YA librarian at your local public library.

Our Summer Reading Program is optional, but highly recommended! We do hope that you and your child will enjoy this summer with one (or more) excellent books.
